Pinela is a variety that requires the right positioning and a great deal of love from the vine grower, due to the delicate thin skin of the grapes. We are grateful to the Vipava climate for the freshness of the territory. The latter is the key to the existence and excellence of pinela in Vipava.
Ivan has planted his Pinela vineyards in selected southern locations. With the planting of the Little Vienna Pinela vineyard in 1998, he revived the abandoned tradition of planting dense vineyards with a density of up to 11 900 vines/ha (row spacing of 1.20 m) in Vipava. This planting method was completely abandoned in Vipava after the Second World War, due to the ease of machine cultivation.
The 2022 Pinela Selection was harvested in the Angel and Little Vienna vineyard on 24 September. The grapes were partially enriched with noble botrytis. The crushed Pinela grapes were macerated for 21 days at October temperature. This was followed by a 22-month maturation period in old 600 litre oak barrels. The unfiltered wine will be bottled in August 2024.
