Mali Dunaj

In some places, the rigging of the vineyard required removing 8 metres of topsoil to get to the limestone marl underneath. It was years before we revived this dead hole with compost and green manure. This was the first vineyard planted on the Batič farm with a row width of 1.2 m and a density of over 10 000 vines/ha. This planting method is not the result of our own ideas, but is simply a revival of the traditional Vipava vineyard, which was completely abandoned due to the very high cost of cultivation. The quality of the grapes from this vineyard has led to this planting method becoming our permanent feature in almost all subsequent vineyards.
